Alan Segedy grew up in Akron, Ohio, attended St. Paul Catholic School, Hoban High School and graduated from Akron University, School of Law in 1972. He joined the downtown law firm of Amer, Cunningham & Brennan as an intern; established a firm with several colleagues a few years later; and eventually established himself as a sole practitioner in 1987. He has continuously practiced law for 45 years.
